There was a remote meeting held among the IPAAE collaborative universities. The participants exchange opinions and ideas regarding the coming coordination meeting planned in Chiang Mai and possible relay lectures. It is very useful to use such a remote system especially when the members are scattered over the world.

IPAAE 参加大学による遠隔会議を行いました。参加者達はチェンマイで開催予定の次回会議についてやリレー講義の教員アレンジメントなどについて活発に意見を交換しました。このように参加大学が外国にある場合は遠隔システムはとても有用ですね。

We are recruiting a MASTER's COURSE student who would like to study at University of Hohenheim in Germany. Please check the detail below, see the attached lecture schedule at Hohenheim univ. and contact me by July 15th if you would like to go.

Number of student: 1-2 people from MASTER's COURSE

Term: 3 to 6 months

Scholarship: About 600EURO/months. Flight cost are being considered to be covered by Kyushu Univ. as well.

If you are a MEXT(Monbu-kagakusyo) scholar, you can not receive MEXT scholarship money while you stay at UHOH. You can receive 600EURO/month instead.

Master's course students who are graduating in the end of September are not eligible.

International Food Education to children/子供への食育イベント

The SYOKUIKU (An educational program for food related issue) event was held at Misora Hoikuen (Childcare) and six of international students and their family participated.

They introduced their food related cultures to the children and had their school lunch together. The children were very curious about their presentation and had good time with us. It was very impressive that teachers and the director of the Misora Hoikuen is highly motivated to give them international SHOKUIKU education.

今日は東区のみそら保育園の食育イベントに６名の留学生とその家族が参加しました。園長からあいさつ、その後子供達との手遊びによるアイスブレーク、そして留学生達は各国の食に関する文化について子供達にスライドを用いて紹介しました。さらに最後に一緒に給食を食べるというスケジュールで行われました。子供達は留学生達が紹介する初めて見る食べ物や食べ方、お祈りの仕方にとても興味を持ち質問や歓声が上がっていました

その後、一緒に給食を食べながらさらにたくさんの質問がでたようです。また、みそら保育園の園長を含む先生方が食育を国際的な観点から子供達に教えたいという想いが伝わってきました。また是非うかがいたいです。

Deadline coming for Doctoral thesis submission and registration for Japan Korea symposium 締め切りもうすぐです

One of students in the International Development Research Course dropped by my office and told me that submission of the thesis has been completed. I was so happy and relieved to hear the news. The deadline for doctoral thesis submission is June 30th! We are waiting to receive your bloody and sweaty masterpieces.

国際開発特別コースの学生が卒業論文を今日提出しましたと報告に来てくれました。こちらも非常にうれしく、そしてほっとしました。博士論文の提出期限は６月３０日です。卒業予定の学生さん達、皆さんの研究成果の完成品を受け取るのを楽しみにしていますのでがんばってください。

1. 中間発表会について（国際開発特別コース(10月入学）博士課程２年生)

国際開発特別コースの博士２年生にはすでに通知しましたが、博士課程の２年生は５月１日に中間発表会を行います。
まず、A4サイズ１枚にまとめた要旨を４月２７日までに提出して下さい。要旨には、Title, Introduction, result, future plan and publication list　を書いて下さい。詳しくは添付のファイルで確認して下さい。
他の学生は発表会に是非来て下さい。特に来年、数年後には中間発表を行う予定の国際開発特別コースD１、M２の学生は参加して下さい。

2. 農学研究ミーティング＃２（朝食ミーティング＃２）

第２回目の朝食ミーティングを企画しました。目的は留学生同士が仲良くなってほしい、そして農学を学ぶことを一緒に考えていこうというものです。ですが、ミーティングはとても気軽に参加できるものを目指しています。３月に第１回のミーティングを行いましたが、参加者の異なるバックグラウンドを聞いたり、各国の農学のおかれている立場を知ったりと楽しいときを過ごしました。皆さんの参加を楽しみにしています。

今回はテーマを”あなたの国の農学系の問題は何ですか？”に決定しました。皆さんの国の農学関係の諸問題を他の学生と一緒に話し合えたらと思っています。

参加を希望する学生はこのメールに返信して下さい。参加費は１００円ですが、もし自分で朝食を準備して持ってくるのであればお金は必要ありません。５名程度の学生を募集しています。

1. Mid-term Presentation Meeting for D2 student of International Development Research Course (October Admission)　

As I already mentioned to the D2 Students of the international development research course, the students are required to give a presentation on May 1st, 2009.

First of all, the students MUST hand in the A4 paper written about research title, introduction, result, future plan and publication list. Please check the attached file for detail. The dead line is April 27, 2009.

The other students are welcome to join for the presentation especially, M2 and D1 students of the course since they will be giving a presentation in next year or so.

2. Agriculture Study Meeting #2

Now, I have planned the 2nd time of " Breakfast Meeting" with me. The purpose of the meeting is to know each other and think about agricultural study together. We had a first meeting last month and it was very interesting to know differences on our backgrounds. We had very good time and hope you can join this time.

The topic of this time is "What are agriculture related problems in your country?" I am looking forward to seeing you and talking about the problem over breakfast.

Please reply this email if you would like to join the meeting. The fee of the meeting is 100JPY and I am thinking to get some bread and drinks. If you prefer bringing your own breakfast, you do not have to pay. I am thinking that around five students be fit in my office.

新入留学生オリエンテーションを行いました。Orientation for freshman international students

４月に入学した留学生に対するオリエンテーションが行われました。９人の留学生が研究生、大学院生として所属することになり、出身国も、ミャンマー、韓国、ブラジル、中国、イランと国際色豊かです。

オリエンテーションでは、日常生活の注意点、カリキュラムの説明、奨学金について、安全教育、カウンセリングについて留学生担当教員の土居講師、高木教授、そして中村にて説明を行いました。留学生の皆さんが九州大学で実り多き学生生活を送ることができるようサポートを行って行きます。

Orientation for freshman international students. There are nine students enrolled and they are from Myanmar, Korea, Brazil, China and Iran.

We talked about Daily life, Curriculum, Scholarships, Safety Training, Counseling for daily and campus lives. Faculty members in charge of international students are Drs. Takagi, Doi and myself, Nakamura. We support the student to have happy and fruitful campus life in Kyushu University.

Kyushu University is offering Innovation Training Program(ITP) for Doctor's course students and post-docs who wish to find a job at Japanese companies.
As programs are given in Japanese, Having communication skill in Japanese is encouraged for the applicants.

Both the selected students and posdocs for the program would be able to receive salary (3,500,000 - 4,000,000JPY/YEAR for a postdoc).The deadline of the application is now April 30th.

Please note that the students who are currently supported by MEXT scholarship (Monbukagakusho scholarship) CANNOT receive any salaries since that would be against its regulation.The students are still eligible for joining the program without receiving any money.

If you would like to apply for it, please contact me for further information. The students who got PhD in Kyushu University in past 5 years are also eligible to apply even if you live outside of Japan.

九州大学イノベーション人材養成センターでは企業での就職を希望する博士課程の学生とポスドクの皆さんでトレーニングプログラムに参加希望する人を募集しています。

プログラムは日本語で行われるため、日本語能力が必要になります。過去５年以内に博士課程を卒業した学生は応募可能です。
採用された学生もしくはポスドクの皆さんには給料が支給されます(ポスドクの人で年間350−400万円）。
現在、文部科学省の奨学金を受けている学生は給料を受け取る事ができませんが、プログラムに参加することは可能です。

国際開発特別コース博士課程２年生のKansuporn Sriyudthsakさんが九州大学助成研究者支援室 (SOFRe)国際学会派遣支援助成に採択されました。おめでとうございます。

中村より学府の留学生メール情報配信にて英文通知したところ何名か応募したいとの問い合わせが来ました。Kansupornさんはこの助成により上海の学会に参加予定です。

Congratulations. Ms. Kansuporn Sriyudthsak has been awarded for the SOFRe grant for attending an international conference. It has been run by Support Office for Female Researchers at Kyushu University (SOFRe) to encourage female researchers.

I informed about the grant to the international students in English by email and she was one of them who contacted me. She is going to attend a conference in Shanghai.

英語プレゼンテーション特訓コース Intensive classes for presentation skill development

３月１３、１６、１７日の３日間、生物産業創世学コースにおいて英語プレゼンテーション特訓コースが行われました。

ネイティブスピーカーを講師に迎え、参加学生がプレゼンを行い改善点を指摘しあうものです。少人数のインテンシブなものに設定されていたため参加学生も一日の間に　前に立ってプレゼン　→　ディスカッション　→　指摘された箇所を変更　→　またプレゼン　と１７日の講義終了時には最初とは見違えるほど学生の上達が見受けられました。日本人学生と留学生が一緒に参加し活発にディスカッションを行っていたのも印象的でした。

支援室会議が開かれました。

平成２０年度に採択されました生物産業創世学コースの支援室会議が行われました。外部評価委員のDr. Francine B. Perler (New England Biolabs Inc, USA)をお迎えし、NEBのインターンシップ事情をうかがいました。その際に、派遣側と受け入れ側がすべての点において合意していなければインターンシップは成功しないという指摘はまさにその通りと支援室教員全員がうなづくポイントでした。平成２１年度のインターンシップはさらに充実したものにするためサポートを行っていくことを確認しました

その後、３月１８日に行われる奈良女子大学との合同フォーラム「大学院グッド・プラクティス交流会」についての説明が行われました。とても充実した内容ですので多くの方々の参加をお待ちしています。

ドイツホーエンハイム大学からTil Feikeさんが授業に来られました。Mr. Til Feike from UHOH gave a special lecture.

九州大学大学院生物資源環境科学府の英語で授業が行われる国際開発特別コースのSpecial Lecture on International Developmentにドイツホーエンハイム大学（University of Hohenheim; UHOH）からTil Feikeさんをお迎えしました。これは先週から行われている連続講義の最終部で、ホーエンハイム大学から合計３人をお招きして行いました。

講義終了後は、今年度採択された国際化加速プログラム総合戦略型”アジア農学教育のプラットフォーム形成”のプロジェクト紹介を行い多くの有益なコメントをいただきました。

国際シンポジウム“世界とアジアの食料問題 -コメと魚の将来性は-"International Symposium "Prospects for Rice and Fish

魅力ある大学院教育イニシアティブ「世界戦略的フードサイエンス教育」国際シンポジウム “世界とアジアの食料問題 -コメと魚の将来性は-"　が九州大学大学院生物資源環境科学府とアジア総合政策センターの共催により福岡リーセントホテルにて行われました。

招待講演者として米国アーカンソー大学農学部のエリック・ウェイルス教授、英国セントアンドリュース大学生物学部のバレリー・スミス教授が招かれました。

ウェイルス教授は「世界のコメ需給予測。価格高騰は再来するか？」というタイトルで、未来の世界におけるコメの価格についての動向予測などについて講演されました。

スミス教授は「英国と北欧から学ぶ養殖漁業の現状と将来」というタイトルで、現在ヨーロッパ特に英国における養殖漁業の状況、そして養殖漁場で深刻な問題を引き起こす魚介類への細菌やウイルス感染の実態について講演されました。

その後コーヒーブレークをはさみ、座長である九州大学農学研究院伊東正一教授と３人をパネリストとして会場の参加者との意見交換が行われ、遺伝子組み換えの行われた農作物や魚介類についての安全性や消費者への受けとめかたなど活発な議論が行われました。
